Community FM 2005 Conference

CFM 2005 Conference:

Manchester is hosting the first ever gathering for the UK’s new Community Radio Licensees.

Ofcom’s announcement of the largest ever roll out of licences with over 100 in 2005 and 300 in the next 5 years “is the most important cultural development in recent years” Ofcom.

Community Radio is a unique media that transforms communities, and this year sees the first 150 pioneers coming together to share their experiences, in Manchester, the UK’s creative hub and home of Community Radio.

Ivan Lewis MP at Community FM 04

Community FM conference 2004 was:

‘excellent’ (DCMS)

‘the birth of community radio.’ (Ofcom - conference delegate)

Most importantly, the 120 delegates left buzzing with enthusiasm to go out and make their dream of community radio a reality.

The Conference:

October 21st & 22nd 2005 at Urbis, Manchester.

In association with the Community Media Association sponsored by Manchester College of Arts & Technology.

Who is it for?

New to community radio….

The event will give you a crash course in how to lay the foundations for a new project – from people who’ve been there and done that! There will also be content aimed at those agencies (e.g. schools/colleges, police, youth, housing and health workers) who wish to get involved with community radio.

Bidding for a licence…

The Ofcom community radio team will be with us – to debrief delegates on why licences were granted and refused. There will also be substantial workshops on filling in the application form.

Got a new licence…

A series of workshops by Radio Regen and other pilot station staff – on the nitty gritty of station management and why it’s so different from anything you’ve done before.

Community radio partners…

The many and varied agencies and organisations who are working with community radio UK-wide: local government, education, youth, crime and disorder, health, community cohesion, VCS, social enterprise and housing. Practitioners and partners will present their account of joint working and the improved delivery that resulted from it.

We have designed a workshop pathway for the four delegate categories. We realise that you won’t all fit into such neat boxes and will do what we can to accommodate you.

As well as accessible and authoritative workshops by some of the country’s most experienced community radio practitioners, Community FM 2005 will include informative and inspirational speakers from the government and Ofcom. Fun and networking is also high on the agenda so our programme features good quality networking structures and space with proper length breaks and a good dinner and social event in the inspiring surroundings of Urbis.

Workshops

There is a full schedule of workshops and details on this will be updated regularly – please check back for details as they come in.

Booking

The success of last years event would lead us to advise you to book soon. Previous delegates have told us that workshops are the most useful thing we can offer you, so we’re going to try to squeeze in as many in as possible.
